Silk, organza, tulle, satin… There are so many types of fabric used in wedding dresses, it can quickly become confusing. Add in the differences between natural fibers, synthetic fibers, and blends of the two, and your head can start spinning.
Knowing a bit about wedding dress fabrics can be a huge help as you start trying on dresses. For instance, silks and satins will give a smoother result while tulles and organzas can be used for texture.
Many dresses will combine two or more types of fabric to achieve a particular design, such as a sleek bodice and full skirt. It’s also worth noting what material is used in any lining, as this is what will be up against your skin all day.
While you can do some research about fabric types online, the best way to learn about them is to visit a bridal shop and get a real feel for them. At Amanda-Lina’s our experts can help guide you through the different fabrics, along with their pros and cons. To find out more, get in touch today!
Last week we talked about the great styles that this year’s celebrity brides have been wearing. One of the most popular looks is Keira Knightley’s short dress. Brides are eager to wear the look for their big day.
Keira wore a short sleeveless tulle dress in a pale blush. While there’s a lot of speculation about whether she’d worn the dress before, there’s a pretty much unanimous agreement that she looked fabulous.
Short dresses are perfect for summer ceremonies, and are a great choice if, like Keira, you’re having a relaxed wedding. They can be flirty, fun, and ideal for a party.
There are plenty of short wedding gown styles available, too. Full skirts give a slightly formal party dress touch to many looks. They look great paired with most accessories.

In the past week, both Keira Knightley and Shenae Grimes have gotten married, and both celebrity brides have chosen unique wedding dress styles.
For Keira’s very small wedding — only 11 guests joined her and new husband James Righton for the ceremony — she wore what appeared to be the same Rodarte dress that she had previously worn to a 2008 BAFTA party. The dress, a strapless blush tulle dress with a ballerina look to it, was paired with a Chanel jacket and ballet flats.
Shenae’s gown was chosen specifically for her wedding to Josh Beech, but went for an unexpected look. The actress wore a black dress from Vera Wang’s Fall 2012 collection. The dress wasn’t completely black, though, with a blush touch at the front.
What do you think of the unique wedding looks these celebrity brides have chosen? Do you want to find a gown that’s special for your wedding day?
